Kangana Ranaut backs Isha Koppikar’s ‘andhbhakt’ remark, shares anecdote

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has backed Isha Koppikar after the actor described herself as a proud “andhbhakt” in a social media video. Isha clarified that her devotion was not towards any political party but towards India, saying she could love the country while still questioning the government and disagreeing with its policies. Kangana shared Isha’s video on her Instagram Stories and said she could relate to the sentiment.
Isha Koppikar makes a shocking remark
Isha’s comments came after she posted a video explaining why she was comfortable with the term “andhbhakt”. She said that if loving one’s country and wanting to see it progress could be described as devotion, she was proud to accept the label. However, she stressed that her “blind devotion” was towards her country and not any political party.

The actor also emphasised that patriotism, according to her, does not mean blindly supporting those in power. She said that a person could question the government, disagree with its policies and still love the country wholeheartedly. Isha further said she was proud of India because it was the country where she had built her career and continued to receive opportunities.
Reacting to the video, Kangana recalled incidents from her own life when she said she had protested against things she considered wrong. She claimed that while she was in high school, she objected to a teacher who allegedly used to hit children on the head with a stick during assembly.

Kangana also referred to her opposition to the violence of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the brutality against Nirbhaya. She added that she had never blamed her parents for any limitations she faced and instead worked towards improving the standard of living for her family.
Kangana further said that she identifies as a “bhakt” of almost everyone she meets and reiterated her love for the country and its people. Her comments were shared in support of Isha’s explanation of the term and her distinction between patriotism and allegiance to a political party.
The exchange comes amid Kangana’s recent comments on protests. Last month, she criticised some participants of the Gen Z protests at Jantar Mantar, using strong language to describe what she saw in videos from the demonstrations. Her remarks drew backlash, following which she clarified that she was not referring to the entire youth population or making a blanket statement about the protest.
Isha’s latest statement has therefore sparked discussion online, particularly over the use of the term “andhbhakt” and whether patriotism can be separated from political allegiance. Kangana’s public endorsement has added further attention to the actor’s remarks. She was also mired in a legal soup for the same.
