The 2018 clash between KGF and Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero turned out to be a defining moment for Yash. While KGF catapulted him to pan-India stardom, Zero struggled at the box office. Years later, Yash, who has often spoken about being an SRK fan, reflected on the decision to release the films on the same day.
Yash reflects on KGF and Zero’s clash
During his appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor was asked about the clash and whether he had deliberately chosen to release KGF alongside Shah Rukh’s Zero. “Aap Shah Rukh Khan ke bahut bade fan hain, aap unse milna chahte the and jab time nahi diya toh aapne unki Zero ke saath apni KGF film clash kara li,” (You’re a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan, and you wanted to meet him. When he didn’t give you time, did you decide to clash your film KGF with his Zero?), the actor was asked on the show.
To this, Yash explained, “Our film was a small one and Shah Rukh sir’s film was huge, so we released on the same day.”
To note, KGF eventually earned around Rs 250 crore worldwide, while Zero collected around Rs 100 crore. The failure of Zero left a profound impact on Shah Rukh, and he didn’t want to act anymore. After the debacle, he was on a four-year hiatus and returned to the big screen with Pathaan. The success was followed by Atlee’s Jawan, which continues to remain one of the highest-grossing movies in Bollywood.
Yash’s upcoming movies
The actor is now gearing up for the release of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. The film is all set to release on August 26. Its trailer was released a few days back, and Yash, as Raya, unleashed his menacing side. While praising his co-stars, he addressed the rumours of the film getting shelved. He told, “There would be news about the film being shelved. I don’t know from where they’d write these stories. I used to feel bad because we were working so hard. We shot for 200 days for two versions.”
Apart from this, Yash is also starring in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana as Ravana, and his glimpse in the trailer won hearts. The film is all set to release this Diwali. It stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, and many more actors.
