'Gauri Spratt is Christian': Aamir Khan on love jihad tag after third marriage

Actor Aamir Khan, who tied the knot for the third time with Gauri Spratt earlier in July, has been facing backlash from certain sections. Many political leaders even linked his marriages to the controversial term ‘love jihad’. The actor has now responded to the ongoing debate surrounding his marriage, clarifying that none of his partners converted to Islam. He went on to add that Gauri is actually a Christian. Meanwhile, in other news, a Muslim body has issued a fatwa against the actor for marrying a non-Muslim.
Aamir Khan reacts to the love jihad tag
Following Aamir Khan’s civil marriage ceremony on July 5, discussion began on social media after some politicians and netizens questioned Aamir’s marriages to non-Muslim women. Aamir has now addressed the issue while rejecting the claims and clarifying that religion has never affected his personal relationships.
During a conversation with Rediff, Aamir said, “Neither Gauri, Kiran nor Reena converted their religion, as we had civil marriages. Gauri is not even Hindu; she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that. Life is getting more comical as time passes.”
According to the actor, his relationships have always been built on mutual respect and personal choice instead of religious considerations. The actor also opened up about his family’s perspective on interfaith marriages and added that such relationships have long been accepted in his family.
“The truth is that ours is a very inclusive family. Both my sisters are married to Hindus; my daughter is also married to a Hindu. My cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian,” Aamir added.
Fatwa against Aamir Khan
Meanwhile, a fatwa has reportedly been issued against Aamir by Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ibrahim Husain of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Uttar Pradesh. According to the cleric, a Muslim man is not permitted to marry a non-Muslim woman unless she converts to Islam.
On the other hand, BJP leader and Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane recently criticised Aamir Khan’s third marriage, saying that when celebrities make such personal choices, Hindu society should think about them. Rane even questioned if the actor’s latest marriage should be viewed as an example of “love jihad.”
Aamir tied the knot with wellness and beauty industry professional Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony at his Pali Hill residence in Mumbai’s Bandra on July 5. Before Gauri, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002. He then married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, with whom he announced his separation in 2021.
