Salman Khan never wanted Maatrubhumi to be a conventional war film, says source

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is all set to present a refreshing and deeply emotional perspective on war with his upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace. The film which was initially supposed to hit theatres on April 17 has now been pushed. The makers are yet to decide on a release date for the film.
What is Maatrubhumi about?
According to a source close to the actor Salman, the vision behind Maatrubhumi has always been rooted in emotional storytelling rather than high-octane war sequences. “Salman has been crystal clear right from the early meetings that Maatrubhumi was never meant to be a conventional war film. For him, it’s about showcasing the human side of a soldier, the emotional duality of living two lives, one on the battlefield and one at home. That sensitivity and clarity of thought is what truly sets him apart. He isn’t just leading a film; he’s shaping its soul with purpose, ensuring that the story connects with audiences on a deeply personal and emotional level,” the source shared.
This approach marks a significant departure from typical war narratives, placing emphasis on the inner conflicts and emotional struggles faced by soldiers. By focusing on themes of love, sacrifice, and identity, the film aims to resonate with audiences beyond just action and patriotism.
Maatrubhumi release date
Salman Khan seems to be missing yet another date with the cinemas, and fans aren’t amused. His film Maatrubhumi, originally titled Battle of Galwan, was first slated for an April release. The war drama, based on the 2020 India-China clash, was later pushed to May after Salman and director Apoorva Lakhia reportedly reshot nearly 40 days of the film to avoid straining the already fragile diplomatic sensitivities between the two countries. Now, the latest buzz suggests even May is off the table. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, ‘Maatrubhumi’ is eyeing a June release as the revised cut continues to face clearance hurdles at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Third time’s the charm!
Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films, with Apoorva Lakhia as director. The film promises an unflinching portrayal of bravery, sacrifice, and resilience, and also stars Chitrangada Singh in a pivotal role.
