Woman questions whether people would risk their lives
In an Instagram video, a woman challenged the idea that fans should have chased the attackers. She said that when people see a gun, their natural reaction may be to run away rather than move towards danger. While making it clear that she condemned the attack, she questioned why anyone should be expected to risk their life when they know an armed person is involved. Her point was that ordinary people may want to help but can feel powerless in a frightening situation.
Vidyut Jammwal talks about ‘empathetic courage’
Responding to the woman, Vidyut thanked her for sharing her views and explained that his message was about a wider problem of people standing by when someone is being harmed. “Thank you for your video,” he wrote, before adding that he wanted people to question why they remain bystanders during incidents such as rape, theft, and road rage. “One doesn’t need martial arts skill; one has ‘empathetic courage ’; just activate it.. Loveee,” Vidyut said.
Woman responds with a message about safety
The woman later thanked Vidyut for his response and praised his message about challenging bystander apathy. However, she clarified that her original video was about the difference between helping someone and confronting a person with a firearm. “For an untrained citizen, freezing is a natural survival instinct in that split second,” she wrote, adding that ordinary people should be allowed to feel powerless when faced with extreme danger. The exchange has brought attention to the need to help people facing violence and the reality that confronting an armed attacker can be life-threatening. ,
