Zoya Akhtar confirms ZNMD 2
“We are on it,” Akhtar confirmed when asked for an update on the sequel in an interview with Hollywood Reporter. She added, “We don’t know what will happen and what won’t… if we will get to a place it feels correct, in catching up with these characters today. But it will be nice.”
The excitement for the sequel recently rose when the trio reunited for a tourism ad. She addressed the frenzy and stated, “People thought it was a trailer. First, they were like, ‘YEAH!’ but then I got abused in my DMs saying, ‘This was not funny.’”
Hrithik had also confirmed the sequel as he attended an event in Atlanta. He had said, “My instincts are telling me it will happen. I don’t know when, but it will.”
More about the sequel
A few months back, mid-day reported that Zoya Akhtar had locked the first draft of the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sequel. The story revisits Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol’s characters years later, exploring mid-life choices, evolving friendships, and unresolved dreams. If things go as planned, the sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara will roll only later this year after Zoya Akhtar’s banner wraps Dahaad 2 shoot.
Directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the Excel Entertainment banner, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was released in theatres on July 15, 2011. The film featured an ensemble cast including Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif, and Kalki Koechlin, with Naseeruddin Shah and Deepti Naval in significant roles. It revolved around three childhood friends — Arjun, Kabir, and Imran — who set out on a life-changing bachelor road trip across Spain.
Meanwhile, Farhan is keen to roll his long-in-the-works female road trip film, Jee Le Zaraa. Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt have been attached to the project since its 2021 announcement. Recently, the actor-producer dismissed reports of the film undergoing a casting change as it remains in limbo. He also assured that he will share an update once things are finalised.
