Arun Govil supports Ranbir Kapoor, calls him ideal for Lord Ram’s role

Veteran actor Arun Govil, who remains synonymous with Lord Ram for generations of viewers thanks to Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television series Ramayan, has weighed in on the criticism surrounding Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as the deity in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious film adaptation, Ramayana.

As anticipation for the two-part epic continues to build, the film has also faced scrutiny from a section of audiences who questioned whether Ranbir Kapoor is the right choice to portray one of the most revered figures in Indian mythology. However, Govil has expressed confidence in the actor’s abilities and urged people to keep an open mind.
Speaking about the backlash, Govil acknowledged that comparisons are inevitable. Having portrayed Lord Ram himself in a role that became deeply ingrained in the public consciousness, he understands why some viewers may struggle to accept a new interpretation. According to him, audiences have a strong emotional connection with the character and often associate it with a specific image.

He noted that many people are reluctant to see another actor step into the role because the original portrayal remains so beloved. At the same time, he emphasized that every generation deserves its own retelling of the epic and that actors should be given the opportunity to bring their own perspective to iconic characters.
Govil had high praise for Ranbir Kapoor, describing him as a talented and hardworking performer. He said he believes the actor possesses the dedication and sincerity required to handle a role of such significance. The veteran actor also highlighted Ranbir’s disciplined approach to his craft and expressed confidence that he will give his best to the project.
Interestingly, Govil is also part of Ramayana, but this time in a different role. Instead of portraying Lord Ram, he will be seen as King Dasharath, the father of the protagonist. The casting has generated excitement among fans eager to see the veteran actor return to the world of Ramayana in a new avatar.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film boasts a star-studded cast, with Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash essaying the role of Ravana. Positioned as one of the biggest cinematic ventures in Indian film history, Ramayana is expected to blend grand visuals with the timeless story that has captivated audiences for centuries.
With production progressing steadily, the makers remain focused on delivering a spectacle worthy of the epic’s legacy, while supporters like Arun Govil continue to back Ranbir Kapoor’s interpretation of the iconic character.
