Neha Dhupia praises Karan Johar: ‘People have a lot of opinions about him’

Neha Dhupia is an avid social media user and often shares glimpses of her joyous times with friends Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, among several others. The actress, however, claims that while she knows a lot, people can’t easily get information out of her. In an exclusive chat during The Bombay Film Story, Neha opened up about being heralded as the female Karan Johar, praised the filmmaker, and spoke about dealing with trolls.

When asked about being friends with almost everyone in the industry, Neha quipped, “I am not everyone’s best friend, but I know a lot of people. I feel like I am not a threat to anyone, so people think, ‘Let’s be friends with her.’ I have a lot of information, but people can’t get that out of me. I met a lot of people through Karan.”
Heaping praise on how the filmmaker effortlessly multitasks and calling him the OG single papa of Bollywood, Neha gushed, “What we have in common is that we enjoy self-deprecating humour. He knows how to take a joke on himself, but sometimes it can get tiring. There is so much to learn from him. There is so much going on in his life. It baffles me how he manages to make time for everything, including his children. He is the OG single papa. I sometimes get tired just following his routine.”

She added, “People have a lot of opinions about him. I remember having a bad meeting with someone, and the first thing I did was call him. He picked up and he gets it. His emotional quotient is so sharp. It’s not that we have worked together so much. People think that just because I am his friend, I am a part of Dharma movies, but that’s not the case. If there is something good, we collaborate. Many times, he has also suggested that I not do certain projects, like a good friend.”

She also opened up about her vocal nature and hitting back at the audience when necessary on social media. Recalling how she has been targeted, Neha shared, “Unless I genuinely think someone has a wrong understanding, I would explain it to them. That’s when you are raising your voice in the right direction. For instance, I wrote something on mom’s guilt and a lot of moms agreed with me, while some said, ‘Isko mom’s guilt se kya fark padta hai? Iske paas toh kaam hi nahi hai.’ You need to silence some people. She added, “Somebody fat-shamed me when I had a baby. If I don’t raise my voice, what would they do to other women facing it?”
On the work front, the actress has been a part of two popular projects recently. She played the role of a therapist in Perfect Family. She later starred in Single Papa and essayed the role of an adoption agency officer.
